Dance Maynia Performer Opportunity

Do you have students in Years 9-13 with a keen interest in Dance and performing?

Active Together, in partnership with the School Sport & Physical Activity Networks (SSPANs), would like to give a young person or group of young people attending a Secondary School/College in Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland the opportunity to create a fun, simple, easy to follow dance warm-up video!

The successful performer(s) will then have the routine professionally filmed and they will lead it during the mass warm-up at the School Games Summer Festival on Friday 24th June 2022!

The video will also be used for Daily Boost Dance Maynia from 3rd-17th May 2022 to encourage Schools to get involved and use the routine to inspire their Daily Boost activity!

What we are looking for

  • Performer(s) must be from Years 9-13 (from a Leicestershire, Leicester or Rutland School/College) with a keen interest in dance, with strong performance and teaching skills.
  • To apply, performer(s) must create a simple routine and submit a short video of this (ideally 2.5-3 minutes long) using upbeat (appropriate) music of their choice, suitable for a mass warm-up.
  • The content of the routine must be fun, easy to follow and suitable in style and content for primary aged children to follow.

What you need to know

  • Create and submit your routine as a video, on the online application form (link below) by Friday 21st January 2022.
  • Applications will be accessed and the successful performer(s) will be informed in early February 2022.
  • We need the performer(s) to be available all day on Friday 24th June 2022 to perform their routine!

What happens next / The best bits!

  • The successful performer(s) will then have their routine professionally filmed (both performing and teaching their routine), likely in February 2022.
  • The video will also be used for Daily Boost Dance Maynia from 3rd-17th May 2022 to encourage Schools to get involved and use the routine to inspire their Daily Boost activity!
  • The video will be shared to participating schools across Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland for them to rehearse in readiness for the School Games Summer Festival on Friday 24th June 2022.
  • The successful performer(s) will be invited to lead their routine as the mass warm-up during the Opening Ceremony at the School Games Summer Festival!
  • The successful performer(s) will also be invited to support the Dance Workshops at the School Games Summer Festival, where they will gain further experience delivering dance from Coaches.

The video of your routine can simply be filmed on a phone, landscape if possible.

Applicants will be informed in early February 2022 if they have been successful.
