About Old Parks Farm
It is visible from the A42 and existing footpaths, with views to Measham and Staunton Harold. A millennium feature of 20 hornbeam trees forms the central focus of the site.
The new woodland planting consists of 80% broadleaves (principally ash, birch, field maple and wild cherry) and 20% conifer species (including Scot's pine and larch). Stone used in the building of the Royal Hotel in Ashby was quarried from the existing woodland, Fox Covert. The woodland ponds are the remains of this quarrying activity. New ponds and wetlands benefit dragonflies and other insects, and open ground has been sown with grass and wildflower seed cut from an existing meadow on the farm, which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
The owner has dedicated a new public footpath across the site, and Scout and Guide camping is available by arrangement.
