About South Leicestershire Badminton Junior Club

South Leicestershire Badminton Junior Club is available for players aged 8 to under 18 (as classified by criteria for school year 13) regardless of previous experience or ability.

South Leicestershire Badminton Club was formed in 1992 when Countesthorpe Badminton Club and Wigston Badminton merged … that makes us 31 years old!

The club continues to received renewal accreditation as a Badminton England Premier Club and Sport England Clubmark.

The club first started a Junior Section some 11 years later in 2003 … that makes the Junior Club 20 years old! Many junior members have gone onto represent Leicestershire and older members have followed the pathway into the Senior Club, and now enjoy playing badminton in the Leicestershire Leagues.

South Leicestershire Badminton Junior Club is available for players aged 8 to under 18 (as classified by criteria for school year 13) regardless of previous experience or ability. This is a friendly club that caters mainly for players of beginner and intermediate ability.

We offer structured sessions for learning and fun too! Members are invited to play in external tournaments when appropriate. We are affiliated to Badminton England (CL000083), and follow their guidance in our code of conduct for young people and other policies

For Junior players who wish to progress into the Senior Club, there are plenty of opportunities as the club has two ladies teams, three mens teams and four mixed teams.

The long-term goal for South Leicestershire Badminton Club is to ensure the success of a Junior club to provide longevity to the Club. To meet this strategy the club offers high quality junior coaching delivered by fully qualified licensed / registered Badminton England coaches.

We want to pass on our passion for Badminton into the community, and hope you enjoy being a member of South Leicestershire Badminton Junior Club

We are a friendly Junior club who welcomes players from 8-18 years regardless of previous experience or ability. We offer structured sessions for learning and fun too! Members are invited to play in external tournaments when appropriate. Our Senior Club is affiliated to Badminton England (CL000083) and has received accreditation as a Badminton England Premier Club and Sport England Clubmark. We follow their guidance in our code of conduct for young people and other policies.

All members join and are registered with Badminton England for either (i) "RACKET PACK (0-11 years)" or (ii) JUNIOR PLAYER(12-18 years)" membership unless agreed otherwise.

For the new season 2023/24 the club will now have two badminton session. The 5:00pm to 6:00pm sessions is currently aimed at aged 8 to 15 years (school years 3 to 10 only) and the 6:00 to 7:30pm sessions is currently aimed at aged 11 to 18 years (school years 7 to 13 only). We will operate a waiting list for the sessions when applicable. Over the next year, the club's strategy will be to also work with local Junior Schools to give younger children a taste and fun of the sport that hopefully means more weekly sessions are required at appropriate age groups (and ability) to meet the demand and age groups of all club members.

The total Autumn, Spring & Summer Term costs are in the form of 10 monthly BACS standing order payments (September 2023 to June 2024). For the 5:00pm to 6:00pm sessions these are £23.00 (or £21.00 for a second child) and for the 6:00pm to 7:30pm sessions these are £33.00 (or £30.00 for a second child).

A club shirt will be provided free of charge as part of initially joining the club, which will be required to wear at the weekly Friday badminton sessions (suitable sizes will be established on the first weeks attendance). Also any Club member from season 2022/23 can exchange their existing shirt for a larger size.

Children will have the opportunity to take part in "The Racket Pack" Badminton England award scheme.

  • All weeks will include an element in respect of Preparing to Play activities, Single & Double Ladders, Fun & Conditioned Games.
  • Within each week the tasks will be adjusted on the various courts to reflect the needs of all the players' abilities (i.e. beginner / intermediate).
  • The Six Sigma method of DMAIC (i.e. Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve, and Control) will be used at various stages over the weeks in relation to a selected range of shot skills by using either Yonex Mavis 300 of both medium & fast speeds or Yonex AS30 Feather shuttles.
  • A BKL Automatic Shuttlecock Launcher will also be available to be used.
  • The FocusX2 analysis software programme tool using captured video footage of the player's movements will also be used at various stages over the Autumn, Spring & Summer Terms to help improve player's technical & tactical skills.
