WALX  Leicester East is your local outdoor health and fitness provider – your gym, but wherever you want it! All of our activities are run by qualified instructors/leaders, providing you with the confidence to exercise outside in a supportive, sociable group, with like-minded individuals. Our aim is to help you improve your health, wellbeing and overall fitness with the benefits of doing so in the fabulous fresh air!

WALX are suitable for everyone – including those with health concerns. If you would like to discuss a health condition with us to check whether our activities are suitable for you, please get in touch.

WALX Leicester East is run by Amanda Howe and her experienced fun loving team! We walk all over Leicester and Leicestershire, so come with us to explore the parks, canals and open countryside, while becoming the fittest you have ever been!

Amanda

Role: WALX Master

Amanda likes to be out and about in the fresh air. She loves the sociability of Explorer WALX and Nordic WALX and will help you find your inner calm and wellbeing with her Wellness WALX

Jenny

Role: WALX Master

Jenny is a highly skilled fitness professional who is qualified to deliver Cardiac rehabilitation and Exercise referral sessions. Jenny combines those skills with a lot of fun to make sure that anyone who steps out with her, feels comfortable, motivated and healthier from day one!

Join Jenny to for both your physical and mental health and wellbeing. She will be running a variety of sessions ranging from:

  • Strength and Conditioning,
  • Wellness WALX (this session is especially for those with health issues and will include exercises to include cardiovascular, strength, flexibility and balance),
  • Mindful WALX,
  • Power of Poles 1, Tips and Techniques,
  • Power of Poles 2, Tips and Techniques,
  • Energising cardiovascular WALX
  • Gentle walk and talk.
Carolyn

Role: WALX Leader

Carolyn is a WALX Leader for WALX Leicester East.

She earned her Freedom Passport by completing her Power of Poles training in 2021 and has never looked back! So much so, that when the opportunity to train as a WALX leader came up, she jumped at the chance!

Getting out with her poles gives Carolyn the chance to switch off from her day-job which can be intense and quite stressful. She uses her walks to wind down and re-focus, and will help you to do the same by leading walks in the evenings and at weekends – ideal for those who are busy during the working day!

I have regained the lost inch of my height!

I joined WALX-Leicester East because  I hate the gym and I thought the range of outdoor activities offered would help me  to improve my core and upper body strength enough to cycle longer and faster on my road bike. I could feel the difference very quickly and after only 10 weeks membership I have now met that goal. Even better, I have also discovered that I hadn’t shrunk due to ageing, just poor posture! Better core strength and postural awareness since taking up Nordic Walking means I have regained the lost inch of my height! Two good results for me so far, but I will be continuing with WALX as I can see there are still advanced Nordic Walking techniques to master and so much more on offer from a  fitness and well-being point of view through wide the range of WALX activities offered. Best of all, are the chats and laughter we all have while walking new places and the trying the variety of personal goal oriented exercises offered. A full body workout!

I thoroughly enjoyed the Nordic Walking session and it has transformed the way I walk daily. It is the perfect way to de-stress and there were moments in the session where I was completely transfixed by the marching beat I was making with my poles.
