British Wheelchair Basketball is the Sport’s National Governing Body across the UK, responsible for the sports governance and delivery at every level of the sport. A new format of the game, 3×3, will make its debut at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham 2022 The Commonwealth Games will have 6 teams competing in each of the men’s and women’s competitions. Teams consist of 4 players, with 3 players on the court at each time.

About 3 x Head Coach (Men & Women) 2 roles

England have already qualified for a spot in both the Men's and Women's competition, as the host country, and are seeking to appoint a Men's Head Coach and Women's Head Coach to lead the preparation of the teams.

The priorities for the role are:

  • The preparing, developing, and implementing of a specific 3×3 programme for the team in line with British Wheelchair Basketball playbook (development framework), including the delivery of all trials and camps.
  • Implementing the objectives of the programme in consultation with the Team Leader.
  • Being a part of the process for identifying and selecting the athletes for the programme in line with selection policy and IWBF 3X3 player eligibility guidelines.
  • Working with support staff to develop a training programme which will includes athlete training schedules for in and out of camp.
  • Identifying and supporting the recruitment of appropriate sports science and performance staff to ensure that the program becomes world leading.
  • Representing the team with media and sponsorship requests when required.
  • Keeping all athletes and staff up to date and responding to e-mails and phone calls.
  • Supporting and ensuring the performance environment is an inclusive, positive, learning focused environment that optimally balances the pursuit for excellence with the wellbeing of the athlete.
  • Ensuring all players are actively engaged in the plan and an individualised approach
  • Providing a training environment that is focused on player needs, aligned to the team goal, ensuring a 'safe place to fail' is created when appropriate and players are engaged in the process of pursuit of excellence in everything they do.
  • Providing athletes with 1-2-1 meetings to review progress and to give and receive feedback.
  • Ensuring a balanced and inclusive approach with individual training is taken with all players and staff, providing opportunities for everyone.
  • Ensuring good working practices are in play to make sure all players and staff are resting when required both at competition and in the daily training environment.
  • Ensuring adherence to all organisation policies and procedures existing prior to, during and post the appointment including codes of conducting and safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Proactively engage in the coaching CPD programme and coach education programme as a requirement of the role, including clean games training.
  • Preparing and presenting reports on the programme as required.
  • Providing evaluations and reports on the Men's/Women's 3×3 programme.
  • Present recommendations on selection and take part in the selection process for athletes in accordance with the selection policy
