About Support Coach Olympic Swimming Bath & Loughborough Performance Centres

British Swimming is the national governing body for aquatic sports in Great Britain and is responsible internationally for representation of the sports at high performance level.

Our aquatic disciplines provide training environments in performance centres across the UK for permanent athlete groups as well as acting as 'performance hubs' for national programme-wide activity for World Class Programme athletes.

Following a very successful Olympic Games in Tokyo, British Swimming has created two Support Coach positions for Olympic Swimming - one based in the Bath Performance Centre and the other in the Loughborough Performance Centre.

The aim of the coaching positions is to develop an individual's coaching skills and sports science competencies to be well equipped to take up a future senior coaching role in the club and/or NGB environment in Britain. These posts provide an exciting opportunity to gain practical experience working hands-on as part of our coaching and support teams, in a high-performance environment.

The positions will provide both coaching and sport science delivery to the coaching groups of the respective performance centre, with an anticipated split in terms of time of 75% to coaching and 25% to sport science support.

Working under the leadership of the Performance Centre National Lead Coach, the support coach will be expected to help deliver the centre's individualised athlete training plans in preparation for the British Championships and British Summer Championships to help athletes achieve their performance goals. The post-holders will also be guided by the Head of Physical Development to be responsible for specific sport science tasks such as heart rate monitoring, running tests and taking lactates. There will also be opportunities to take on specific projects which further the knowledge of the Performance centre team.

In addition, the positions will be involved in supporting 'national programme' activity that takes place in each centre as a hub for the Olympic Swimming World Class Programme. Such activities include relay camps, 'head2heads and other athlete visits, coaching development and sport science and medicine services.

The two Support Coaches will be guided in their work by a number of experienced, senior staff as well as a dedicated coaching development programme.

We are looking for enthusiastic self-starters possessing some club experience coaching senior age athletes, a minimum of ASA Level 2 (or equivalent) and a commitment to working towards their Level 3 award. Graduate-level aptitude is desirable, as is some vocational or academic sports science experience. Successful candidates will show the ability to identify new areas for learning, they will regularly create and take advantage of learning opportunities and use their newly gained knowledge and skill on the job. Post-holders will be expected to have excellent organisational skills and work well both independently and as part of a team.

A passion for elite swimming is, of course a prerequisite, and candidates must demonstrate suitability to be role models for the high-performance culture and behaviours expected in the environment.

If you feel that you have the skills and attributes for this role, then we would like to hear from you.

The post will require working extended hours both during the week and at weekends and will involve some travel.

To obtain an application pack, please contact BSHRdepartment@swimming.org or download a pack from our website www.britishswimming.org. Your application should also state if you have any preference in terms of performance centre location.
