Rounders England has come together with partners in Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland to provide opportunities to play Rounders. An investment of £7,000 from the national governing body is looking to increase the number of people who regularly participate in the sport during 2013 and 2014. Local areas that will benefit from the investment are Leicester, Harborough, Blaby, Oadby & Wigston, Melton, Rutland and Charnwood.
Dan Newton, Development Director at Rounders England said "The partnerships that have been formed in Leicestershire are a great platform to ignite the passion for Rounders. Working through local organisations and agencies provides the opportunity to build on an existing understanding of what will work in their communities."
With the summer and good weather on its way, Rounders is the perfect, fun activity for people looking for diversion. Chuck it, whack it, leg it, Smile strips the sport back to its absolute basics.
To Ignite the passion the partnership is seeking to create a vibrant Rounders community. Targeting mums, students, workplace and young people, it aims to cater for all levels of players who want to play regularly and then progress to local teams/leagues. Rounders has the capacity to work with compatible sports to encourage year round participation and also directly target the non active to invite them into sport.
Andrew Watson, Sports Development Officer for Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport said "It's fantastic news that Rounders England have invested in getting more people playing rounders in Leicestershire, Leicester & Rutland. There are some fantastic rounders leagues in Leicestershire and we plan to work with our local authority partners to ignite the passion and get more people enjoying the sport of rounders."
