The festivities are over and the New Year's resolutions have been pledged. Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport (LRS) can help you to fulfil those resolutions for getting fit, taking on a new challenge, losing weight, being healthier and meeting new people in one easy way; Run England!
Run England is a national programme from England Athletics which aims to get the whole nation running.
Across Leicester-Shire there are over 25 groups all offering welcoming, beginner friendly guidance and support to help you get running and achieve your goals. Whether that's just running for more than 2 minutes or completing your first 10k, trained leaders are on hand to support you every step of the way.
All new runners are entitled to free membership discounts on clothing and accessories and a £15 voucher towards a pair of running shoes.
Beverley Hooper, Running Activator for Leicester-Shire & Rutland said, "Running is an accessible way to fit regular exercise into a busy lifestyle and a great way to meet new people. All our Run Leaders are passionate about running and about sharing their enthusiasm with beginners in a supportive and motivational way. The idea of the project is to make it easy to run so our groups are friendly and welcoming, at times and venues to suit local people and I would encourage anyone who's thought about running to check out the Run England website and give it a go."
Nicky Morgan MP for Loughborough and supporter of the project says, "I'm very much a recreational runner and it takes resolve to get out there and run, particularly at this time of year. It's great to break records, but there's also a lot to be said for running as a way of keeping your sanity, general wellbeing and fitness and we could all do with some of that at any time of year!".
Since January 2012, we have trained over 50 Run Leaders who have trained nearly 900 new runners. Three newly qualified Run Leaders start their groups in January.
