These secondary aged aspiring athletes, representing 57 schools, have qualified to compete in the Spring Championships, taking place on Thursday 3rd April at Loughborough University. The action-packed event, full of Olympic-style sport and presentations, aims to build on the legacy of the London 2012 Games, which will be supported by over 120 young leaders and volunteers.
The young athletes will be representing our 10 School Sport & Physical Activity Networks (SSPANs), in 9 sports across 17 competitions, all of which will have qualified from Level 2 area finals, to participate in this Level 3 County Final Championships.
The Championships will be officially opened by the Leicester-Shire & Rutland School Games Ambassadors Sam Ruddock (2012 Paralympic Sprinter). The Opening Ceremony will see Sporting Champion Tom Reed (GB Judo) take on our GO GOLD Ambassador Isaac Gagin in a Judo demonstration, and a performance from Fly Dance, the winner of the recent 'Leicester-Shire & Rutland's GOT Talent' Competition.
As the National Award winners for the management and delivery of an exceptionally high quality 2012/13 Sainsbury's School Games Programme, the Leicester-Shire & Rutland School Games Local Organising Committee (LOC) won the right to run a competition to design the National Sainsbury's School Games Mascot!
Ellen Blaine, from Leicester Grammar School, won the competition with her design of 'SEDRIC the Lion'. The Championships will be SEDRIC's first public appearance before he sets off on a tour of School Games Championships across the Country! SEDRIC will be also be joined by our Leicester-Shire & Rutland Mascot Dazzle!
