Get Active, Live Longer!

'Active Ageing Week' – 29th September – 5th October 2014

Packed with numerous and varied activities, Leicester-Shire & Rutland's 'Active Ageing Week' springs in to action between 29th September – 5th October 2014.

In line with the government's 'Full of Life' initiative and British Heart Foundation National Centre for Physical Activity and Health's 'Active Ageing Campaign', Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport (LRS) is running the county-wide campaign designed to inspire and engage older individuals, resulting in important health and wellbeing benefits.

With the aim to get as many older adults engaging in the recommended guidelines of being active for at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity per-week, Active Ageing Week is designed to kick start a more active lifestyle amongst older individuals.

Following the success of this campaign in 2013, seeing over 1,000 attendances at organised sessions, Physical Activity Development Officers based at the local authorities have co-ordinated another vast programme of activities to get involved in.

From walking, swimming, kurling and dance to seated exercise, bowls, Pilates and golf; there is an activity for everyone to enjoy.

There are lots of opportunities to take part in sport and physical activity on a regular basis throughout the year, not just during Active Ageing Week, with programmes including Active Together (Leicestershire), Active Rutland (Rutland) and Leicester's Active Lifestyle Scheme (Leicester).
