GO GOLD Funding Programme - Open for Applications

Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport (LRS) and its partners are pleased to support talented individuals through the GO GOLD Funding Programme.

The aim of GO GOLD is to support talented athletes and coaches who are being recognised by their National Governing Bodies of Sport as being our future Olympic, Paralympic, Special Olympic and Commonwealth Games participants and their support structure.

Formally known as the 'GO GOLD Talented Athlete Fund' the re-named programme is now spilt into two funding Awards – Podium and Performance.

The Podium Award – Funded by Leicestershire County Council, Leicester City Council and Rutland County Council, athletes and coaches from across Leicester-Shire & Rutland who are competing at Regional level or higher or coaching at Level 2 or above, can apply for funding. Podium closes for applications on 31st October 2014.

The Performance Award – Funding by Leicester City Council, Harborough District Council, North West Leicestershire District Council, Melton Borough Council, Blaby District Council, Charnwood Borough Council and Oadby & Wigston Borough Council. Athletes and coaches from across Leicester-Shire & Rutland who are competing at County level or lower, or coaching at Level 1 or below, can apply for funding. Performance closes for applications on Sunday 14th December 2014.

Applicants must reside in Leicestershire, Leicester City or Rutland.

Lucy Hall, competed as part of Team GB in triathlon at London 2012 and won Gold at the World Championships in the mixed relay event. Lucy also represented England at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, and has been funded as a GO GOLD Podium Athlete for a number of years.

  • In 2013/14, LRS awarded 119 grants of £300, £500, £750 and £1,000 across 28 sports.

Jenny Sugarman, has been coaching football for 14 years. She is currently a coach at the Leicester City Girls Centre of Excellence U13's, University of Birmingham WFC, the Loughborough Foxes FC and is funded as a GO GOLD Podium Coach.

  • In 2013/14, LRS awarded 8 coaching support grants across 8 different sports.
