Want to learn to play roller derby with Roller Derby Leicester? The club has rolling recruitment, which means you can come and start skating with them any time! No prior skating experience is necessary. Their structured programme will take you through all the stages of learning to skate step-by-step, with a high ratio of coaches to skaters to ensure you have all the support you need.
Sessions for new skaters take place on Sunday mornings. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org for details of times, venue and how to sign up.
All skaters must be 18 years or older. Roller Derby Leicester compete as female-only, but male skaters are welcome to train with the club either as players or referees.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
The expert coaches will guide you through the specially-designed programme to ensure you learn all the skills you need safely and effectively.
Grade 1: The basics. How to stand up, get moving and avoid obstacles
Grade 2: Stopping and skate stride. How to stop and how to skate efficiently.
Grade 3: Skate control and manoeuvrability. Weaving, lateral movement and body control.
Grade 4: Agility. Jumping, transitions and backwards skating.
Grade 4A: Derby. Roller derby-specific skills
There is no time limit to achieve a grade, meaning that all skaters can progress at their own pace.
