3 Leicestershire volunteers are finalists for the East Midlands BBC Unsung Hero Award

This year three volunteers from Leicestershire have made the final of the BBCUnsung Hero Award for the East Midlands. Please read below and find out why they have made it to the final:

Mark Barber – he leads the cricket academy at Sileby Town Cricket Club. He's been at the club for 31 years and coaching for the last 9. He's helped hundreds of children get in to cricket and he was nominated by a member of his girls team. He also does the unglamorous jobs. When there's work to be done at the cricket club he's always on the scene.

Harry Matty – is a member of Desford Tennis Club. He's not a coach or an administrator. But members say he's the soul of the club. The 77 year old helps out on everything. From sweeping courts and clearing ice, to encouraging young and old alike. If anyone needs a partner, he'll pick up his racket and give them a good game. He comes into his own with the special groups – the inclusive tennis squad and the MacMillan physical activity group for cancer patients. His enthusiasm and good humour have encouraged hundreds to take up or stay in sport.

Pete Harris – he runs three teams at Ibstock United Football Club; he helped set up and runs the Leicester Futsal league which this season has 65 clubs. He looks after child protection, safety and coaching standards at his club – and its won the FA Charter Standard Club of the Year in 4 of the last 5 seasons. When one of his young players had a serious car accident and was in hospital for three months, he was a regular visitor and raised money to support the family. The young boy's injuries prevented him from returning to the team, so Pete set up an inclusive section at the club for all kids with disabilities.

The winner will be announced at 6.45pm on Monday 16^th on BBC East Midlands Today.
