Netball in the City aims to encourage women and girls aged 14-plus into netball. The project is being co-ordinated by Leicester City Council and Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport and is funded by Sport England.
Cheryl Wilson, Leicester City Council's Netball Activator, said: "You might be a complete beginner, looking for a fun way to be a bit more active, or just fancy getting back into netball because you love being part of a team.
"Netball is a great way to improve your fitness as well as a great social activity – and a typical session can burn an average of 458 calories."
The sessions will provide a gentle introduction to netball, covering the basics of the game including passing, footwork and shooting. Then there will be a friendly game to put those skills into practice.
Cheryl added: "You don't need any special kit, just some trainers and clothes that you feel comfortable exercising in. Make sure you bring some water and that you've had a snack a couple of hours beforehand."
Current Sessions:
- Monday 7th December from 6-7pm at New College
- Wednesday 9th December from 9am-10am at Braunstone Leisure Centre
- Friday 11th December from 9.00-10.00am at Aylestone Leisure Centre
- Wednesday 16th December from 9.00-10.00am at Braunstone Leisure Centre
The sessions will continue after Christmas for a low cost. There will also be some special offers in January, including a week free if you bring a friend, and free pedometers!
