Outdoor Exercise Sessions

Leicester Outdoor Pursuits Centre has set up an activity programme that is designed to have a focus on exercise and good health. These will be our typical outdoor pursuits activities but designed to give you that extra focus on improving aspects of your health and fitness.

This is ideal for people looking to get out and exercise but also fancy something a bit different to your typical fitness programme.

There will be two aims of the programme:

1 - Get active through outdoor pursuits.
2 - Learn more about how you can take these activities further should you want to participate in them more regularly.

The price is £9 per session, apart from the Cross Country Orienteering and River Trip which is £18 each – being longer sessions. If you book on to all of the programme there is a £10 cash back reward when you turn up for the first day plus free Adventure Club membership.

The programme is as follows:

Week 1, Rock Climbing – Saturday 23rd January, 11:30am to 1:00pm

It will start off with some rock climbing; improve those upper body muscles hanging on to our artificial wall. Can you reach the top?

Week 2, KataKanuing – Saturday 30th January, 11:30am to 1:00pm

Another upper body work out, but with a slightly more cardio emphasis engaging both the arms and the core body muscles. A KataKanu is essentially like a canoe but looks like two joined together making it into a catamaran shape.

Week 3, Orienteering – Saturday 6th February, 11:30am to 1:00pm

Exercise those legs as you run from marker to marker. You will also get the chance to learn a bit of map reading too. This is great chance to prepare yourself before our big cross country orienteering challenge later in the programme.

Week 4, Canoeing – Saturday 13th February, 11:30am to 1:00pm

Carrying on from what you've learned in the KataKanus, we now go into regular canoes and see how far we can paddle in the allotted time.

Week 5, Fencing – Saturday 20th February, 11:30am to 1:00pm

Time to test your lunges, parries and reposts. Fencing is a highly energetic sport where you get to sword fight it out with each other. Learn the basics of fencing and enjoy the thrill of poking your opponent.

Week 6, Orienteering Race – Saturday 27th February, 11:30am to 1:00pm

After learning the basics of orienteering you now have a chance to test your map reading skills as they set out a course for you to follow. Will you find your way?

Week 7, Kayaking – Saturday 5th March, 11:30am to 1:00pm

More fun on the river, from canoeing to kayaking. A great cardio workout on the upper body muscles from the core stomach to the shoulders and arms. Can you go as far on the river as you did in the canoes?

Week 7, Cross Country Orienteering – Saturday 12th March, 9:30 to 12:30pm

For this you will meet at Bradgate Park for a bigger longer orienteering challenge. Here you will take what you learned on the previous session and apply them to a longer distance challenge spanning across the park.

Week 8, Canoe Trip – Saturday 19th March, 9:30am to 3:30pm

As a grand finale to the outdoor pursuits exercise programme will be giving people the chance to go for a longer paddle on one of our river trips. We will paddle down all the way to Sileby Mill from Leicester Outdoor Pursuits Centre.
