Team Leicestershire Badminton finalists ‘smash’ their way to victory

35 Teams in total from across Leicestershire, Leicester City & Rutland, took part in the 4 Badminton Team Leicestershire Finals which took place on the week commencing 7th March at Babington College.

'Team Leicestershire'is the new umbrella Association for all traditional competitive school sport in secondary schools across Leicestershire, Leicester City and Rutland.

The main aim of Team Leicestershire is to ensure that as many young people as possible are able to represent their school and compete in a variety of sports / competitions, both at a local level against neighbouring schools, but then with the opportunity to progress through to county finals.

Team Leicestershire also aims to re-ignite, support and profile our County Representative Sides, so that our most talented young people have the opportunity to represent their County with pride on a regional and national stage. Click on the link below for more information

In the first final of the week saw the Key Stage 3 Girls battle in a closely fought contest which saw 9 partnerships represented, it was Ibstock College (North West Leicestershire) that took home the gold medals after beating Humphrey Perkins by just 1 point in the final. Humphrey Perkins (South Charnwood) took home the silver medals.


The second final of the week saw the Key Stage 3 boy's take to the court in another closely fought contest which saw all 10 partnerships represented, it was Newbridge High School (North West Leicestershire) that took home the gold medals. Loughborough Grammar (North Charnwood) came second.

The third final of the week saw the Key Stage 4 girl's pick up the rackets in yet another closely fought contest which saw 7 partnerships represented, it was King Edward (North West Leicestershire) that took home the gold medals, making it 3 out of 3 for North West Leicestershire. Woodbrook Vale (North Charnwood) came second.

The fourth and last final of the week saw the Key Stage 4 boy's battle it out for the winners shield. This final which saw 9 partnerships represented, it was Loughborough Grammar (North Charnwood) that took home the gold medals.Leaving the hosts Babington College (West Leicester) with the 2nd spot.

The 4 winning teams will now go onto the Regional Badminton Championships to represent Team Leicestershire in their respective age group competitions.

Every secondary school in Leicestershire, Leicester City and Rutland has affiliated to Team Leicestershire, which in turn affiliates them to 8 of our major School Sport Associations and their school competition programmes:

The affiliation also gives every school bespoke access to our online 'School Fixtures' Programme, where school staff can easily manage all fixtures and results.

The website can also be accessed by pupils and parents to view fixtures and results and the progression of their school teams to County Finals.
