Gymnasts Tumble their way through the Super-Series Finals!

33 Teams from across Leicestershire, Leicester City & Rutland, took part in the Gymnastics Super-Series Finals last week (29th April) across the 4 competitions.

The Key Steps 1 competition saw all 10 partnerships represented, it was St Bartholomews (North Charnwood) that took home the gold medals Asfordby Captains Close School (Melton & Belvoir) came second, with Parkland (Oadby & Wigston) finishing in third position.

The Key Steps 2 competition also saw all 10 partnerships represented, it was Dovelands Primary (West Leicester) that took home the gold medals Whissendine (Rutland) came second, with Whitwick St John (North West Leicestershire) finishing in third position


The Key Steps 3 competition again saw all 10 partnerships represented, it was Mountfield Lodge (North Charnwood) that took home the gold medals Townlands (Hinckley & Bosworth) came second, with Brooke Priory (Rutland) finishing in third position

The finals finished with the Key Steps 1 Disability competition which saw all 2 partnerships represented with three teams, it was New Croft (North Charnwood) that took home the gold medals Langham (Rutland) came second, with Ashmount (North Charnwood) finishing in third position

The 'Spirit of the Games' trophy was awarded to the following teams for each of the 4 competitions. Key Steps 1 - Parkland (Oadby & Wigston), Key Steps 2 –St Peters MB ( Hinckley & Bosworth), Key Steps 3 –Whitwick St John (North West Leicestershire) & Key Steps 1 Disability – Ashmount (North Charnwood). The umpires collectively believed that these schools best showed the values in which the "School Games" represents - Determination, Honesty, Passion, Respect, Self-Belief and Teamwork.

The Super-Series Final saw up to 4 girls and boys representing each partnership, which was kindly hosted by New College.

The Leicester-Shire & Rutland School Games is part of the national 'School Games Programme' that is a unique opportunity to motivate and inspire young people to take part in more competitive school sport. It is open to all young people aged 5-18 years, of all abilities and backgrounds from every school across Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland.

Delivered locally by Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport (LRS) and the 10 School Sport & Physical Activity Networks (SSPANS), the Leicester-Shire & Rutland School Gamesprovides schools the chance to boost their existing work in school sport to create a year-round calendar of competition for all students.

The 2015/16 School Games programme sets to provide 20 Level 3 Super-Series Finals, a Spring and Summer Championships in 55 competitions across 26 sports!
