GO GOLD Athlete of the Week - Zain Girach

As part of the Athlete of the Week coverage, Zain Girach is the next youngster under the spotlight as we focus on the GO GOLD hockey player. Find out all about him...

1. If you could travel anywhere in the world where would it be?

I would go to South Africa because I have always wanted to go on a safari as I am really interested in the wildlife Africa offers. Also I would want to spend a few days in Zimbabwe to see Victoria Falls, as it would be a once in a lifetime experience.

2. If you were a superhero, what power would you have?

If I was a superhero I would want to be able to time travel as if I would be able to predict the future, so I could change the past. Therefore I would have the best of both worlds.

3. What is your proudest accomplishment (doesn't have to be sport-related)?

Probably getting in the England U16 squad for hockey, as it felt like all my hard work has paid off and I have a great sense of pride about it. Also I am really looking forward to getting the kit soon.

4. What has been your biggest challenge?

I would say currently my biggest challenge is trying to juggle academic studies with my sporting commitments as now I am in my GCSE year the workload has stepped up. But because I am in the England squad this year, my sporting workload has also stepped up.

5. Describe your typical day (including training, school etc.).

I usually wake up at half seven, get to school feeling very tired and then finish at 4pm. Most days I have some sort of extra curricular activities, whether it be hockey or other sports or fixtures for my school.

Look out every week for more information on our GO GOLD athletes!
