GO GOLD Athlete of the Week - April Tacey

Charnwood based cyclist April Tacey is the next GO GOLD athlete to be featured as part of our weekly series.

Aged just 16, Tacey has already picked up notable finishes in junior racing, including a third spot in the National Youth Circuit Series. She has now opened up to Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport on her challenges, role models and everything else cycling!

1) Describe your favourite training session?

My favourite training session is going out for a 3-4 hour road ride with my dad and younger brother around the Leicestershire countryside.

2) Who is your biggest role model and why?

Laura Kenney is my biggest role model because of how determined she was to pursue and win her Olympic gold medals.

3) What has been your biggest challenge?

My biggest challenge was to learn and acquire new skills on the track.

4) What is your favourite thing to do at the weekends?

My favourite thing to do at the weekends is to meet up with my team mates (Team 22 WRT) and race.

5) What is your proudest accomplishment?

I was pleased with 3rd in the National Youth Circuit Series race at Hillingdon as the previous day I had done a hard training session at Manchester on the Track. I also won the GHS National 10 mile time trial Championship as I have previously come runner up for the last 2 years.

6) Do you have anything thing else that you`d like us to know?

This year I have moved up into the junior category and will be competing against other juniors and senior women.
