Get into sport with the ELITE Academy

Time is running out to apply for the ELITE Sports Leadership Academy, with the cut off point being 31st May.

Selected young leaders will be able to develop their personal resume by accessing support and training related to coaching, officiating and event volunteering. They will also be the workforce for the School Games Championships and act as role models and ambassadors back in their own schools/colleges and local Leadership Academies.

Selection for the ELITE Sports Leadership Academy will also provide access to additional opportunities provided by other organisations e.g. Youth Sport Trust and National Governing Bodies of Sport. The Academy is looking for young people who have already demonstrated their talent and commitment as a sports leader and are now looking to push themselves further to realise their sporting potential either as a coach, official or event manager.

Alongside the experience gained by volunteering at the School Games Championships, leaders will attend a series of compulsory training days and optional workshops/courses to assist them to build their own leadership/coaching/officiating portfolio based on their own training needs analysis.

Harry Taylor was a part of the first year of the ELITE Academy and he has since progressed into work. He said: "Without the ELITE Leadership Academy, I wouldn't be doing what I am doing today. The Academy gave me numerous opportunities such as volunteering at the Rugby World Cup and the National School Games in Manchester.

The Academy enhanced my CV, got me offers at University and got me my dream job straight away. It gave me an insight into volunteering and different aspects of sport. My confidence and social skills improved dramatically. I wouldn't previously have been able to talk to over 3,000 people at the School Games or stand up in front of my school and talk in assembly."

The types of workshop/courses that you can expect in the Academy are Leadership skills, Coaching & Officiating, Inclusion, Multi-skills and Creativity training, Coaching Technology, bespoke masterclasses, and opportunities to practically apply and develop these skills.

Compulsory training days will run between August 2017 – April 2018 during school holidays, with additional sessions and opportunities offered to ELITE Leaders throughout the year. Alongside training and qualifications, all Leaders will receive an ELITE Leadership Academy hoodie. In order to support the programme, a small contribution of £10 is required from successful candidates. If you would like to apply, but feel there may be barriers obstructing your ability to enter/attend the programme, please contact us. We would be happy to discuss these further.
