GO GOLD Athlete of the Week: Tre Thomas

The latest to go under the microscope for our Athlete of the Week coverage, Tre Thomas' future looks bright. An Indoor Athletics National champion and having already represented England, Thomas' growth in hurdles competitions continues.

He took time out of his training to give a bit of further insight to his life on and off the course.

1. Tell us one thing we don't know about you?

I initially started athletics as a sprinter at club Charnwood AC in Loughborough. At a YDL event I was asked if I could compete in the hurdles event to gain some valuable points for my team. I had never competed at hurdles before and thought I would give it a whirl. I ended up winning that race and have never looked back since.

2. If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life what would it be?

Any sort of fast food (e.g. McDonald's, KFC) as long as it allowed me to stay healthy, but unfortunately as an athlete this would not be the best preparation before races.

3. What has been your biggest challenge in your sport?

To sustain performing at a high standard and not allowing myself to be complacent during competitions. I want to be able to achieve high standards at every competition.

4. Who is your biggest idol?

I don't have a particular idol in sport. I know that there have been some great hurdlers over the years which include Colin Jackson. However, I do admire many Sports people in their particular discipline. I know how hard they have to work and the sacrifices they have to make. This is sometimes the difference between being good and being the best.

5. What is your biggest goal?

My biggest goal or dream is to compete at Olympics representing Great Britain. It's probably the highest accolade to compete at such a prestigious event. To know you will compete against some of the best athletes in the world is so exciting and exhilarating.

6. Do you have anything else that you'd like us to know?

My funding from Go Gold has massively assisted with my progress and performance and I can't thank you enough.
