It's time to Feel Alive From 65

Feel Alive From 65 week is returning this month!

Taking place from 25th September – 1st October, the week will incorporate regularly run activities as well as a number of sessions designed purely for the campaign week.

Being active in later life is especially important, and Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport are looking to get as many people out and active as possible. And there are a wide range of different activities that are available to take part in. Last year's Feel Alive From 65 saw more than 2,000 people take part in activities across Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland.

All localities have put together programmes of the activities that are happening in their area, and these are available to view by following the link at the bottom of the article.

Sessions are being run at leisure centres, community centres and plenty more locations, and there are a number of new activities that can be taken part in. As well as the conventional sports such as badminton, swimming and bowls, new variations on traditional sports are also on offer. Walking versions of football and netball can be taken part in.

But beyond sports, there are also brand new activities. These include Rock n' Roll Mobility, line dancing and active bingo. And although there are physical benefits to Feel Alive From 65, the week can also provide the chance to make new friends and get to experience new activities whilst creating fresh memories.

Even after the week, Feel Alive From 65 will continue. In October, a Celebration will be held at The Link Hotel in Loughborough, celebrating those who continue to regularly stay active in later life. The evening has seven different award categories and you can help to decide who is recognised for each one. To find out more and for information on nominating those who deserve recognition, visit http://www.lrsport.org/feelalivefrom65celebration.

And you can track all of that activity through the new Active10 app. A brisk 10 minute walk every day can make a difference to your health. Each 10 minute burst of exercise is known as an "Active 10". Brisk walking is simply walking faster than usual, at a pace that gets your heart pumping. Start with a 10 minute brisk walk a day and then see if you can gradually build up to more. Find out more at: https://www.nhs.uk/oneyou/active10/home#LZoD0fdlHdtp0QT2.97.
