For the 6th year in a row Hinckley and Bosworth have a finalist in the BBC Unsung Hero Award. Denise Larrad has been nominated as has all the previous nominees. Denise has been volunteering for 5 years running and supporting weekly Walking Groups, Running Groups, supporting Falls Group at St Francis's and co-coordinating and designing monthly orienteering events. Prior to this Denise raised thousands of pounds for charities running half marathons and marathons and her fund raising was acknowledged by being selected to carry the Olympic torch in 2012 which she took to every school in the borough.
BBC East Midlands were filming her on Tuesday and will be filming her tomorrow. Denise's story will be shown on BBC East Midlands Today next Wednesday of Thursday with the overall winner, who will represent the East Midlands at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award in December, announced the following week.
Denise follows in a long line of amazing volunteers who have been nominated for the prestigious award. Nominating volunteers is a great way to highlight the amazing work they undertake and to also thank the individuals nominated as without these volunteers programmes would not exist that are available now.
