Market Harborough Squash & Racketball Club

Market Harborough Squash & Racketball Club used to be a traditional club with 3 courts, 100 members and 6 teams. The Club is now transformed thanks to hard work and dedication from its members it boasts 5 state of the art squash courts, 2 of which are glassed backed, a viewing area downstairs and upstairs as well as an outside balcony overlooking the cricket ground.

The Club has raised over £340,000 from 11 different funding sources to complete their capital facilities project, including funding from Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport Legacy Fund.

Since completion the overall court usage has increased by 61%, there have been 81 new adult playing members, 54 new junior members and two additional teams in the county leagues. The Club has engaged with partners including Active Harborough Local Sport Alliance to deliver a variety of other sessions including involvement in the JUST Harborough campaign to get more ladies playing squash.

The Club attributes a lot of its success to getting to know its members, what they wanted and the skills they could bring to the table.

Alison Avil, Club Secretary said; "We got good at recognising people with the potential to volunteer at the club, either with their day job skills or helping them to develop new skills. As improvements happened, enthusiasm for the club grew".

Alison continued; the advice and support we have received from our partners, including LRS, has been invaluable"
