The Hinckley Walking Football Club started as a Back To programme and looked to engage older adults to not only increase their physical ability but also to provide them with an opportunity to socialise with like-minded individuals.

The project was funded initially for 10 weeks to help establish a regular group. The walking football sessions took place at Green Towers and were one hour long.

The sessions started with basic skills and warm up exercises followed by various football drills and games. By using an early slot of 11-12pm it helped us to attract members of the public who are entering the pre-retirement age which gave them an alternative avenue to spend their time and to keep fit. Week on week we saw an increase in attendance and by week 13 we met our goal of 12 members which allowed us to run a full game.

The participants are now committed to being part of a team, have their own kits and have named themselves the Hinckley Walking Football Club. They are due to attend a Leicestershire FA tournament which is fantastic.

12 members covers the venue and coach costs and the club has become self-sustainable.
