Bronze and Silver Recognition as Young Athletes Flourished in the School Games Disability Sportshall Athletics

Aylestone Leisure Centre hosted the third of the School Games Super-Series Finals on 8th December 2017, 'Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4/5 Disability Sportshall Athletics'.

Six teams each represented their area within Leicestershire as they went head to head in official sportshall athletic events including: standing long jump, speed bounce, target throw, hi-stepper, chest push, soft javelin, the breaker and relay.

North West Leicestershire (Forest Way), were the worthy winners in KS3 and racked a high score of 92 points by winning all events other than speed bounce.

KS4 however, entailed a very different story with only 10 points to separate the top 3 teams. Melton & Belvoir (Birch Wood) managed to scrape pole position with 84 points.

The event's organiser, Cherie D'Silva, commented the overall standards to which every team took part in the events was phenomenal. A handful of individuals scattered across the teams earned bronze and silver national recognition after the event by the National Athletics Programme.

Many thanks to the Leicestershire Disability Athletics Association for running this Final and also all the other events in the Disability Athletics Calendar this term. Crownhills Community College also sent a fantastic group of leaders to support. Also thank you to Aylestone Leisure Centre for hosting Fridays competitions.
