On Monday 5th March, Desford Lawn Tennis Club were presented with the award for its comprehensive provision, across all ages, encouraging players with special needs to play and progress. The club have delivered regular outreach sessions at special schools in the area and hosted disability coaching days, tournaments and competitions. The club supports "come and try it events" for people with special needs as well as supporting Special Olympic group tennis sessions at Green Towers in Hinckley.
The club undertook this work in partnership with Hinckley and Bosworth Council and the difference they have to people with special needs is incalculable. The club now move forward to the Midlands awards event in June where they will be up against other county winners. The Midlands winners will then be invited to Wimbledon in July for the announcement of the overall national winners
Cllr Maureen Cook said " I am delighted that Desford Lawn Tennis Club have won this award. It is a great reward for the fantastic work the club undertake making tennis accessible for everyone and I'd like to congratulate the club, its coaches and volunteers for winning this prestigious award"
