Badminton KS4 Girls Humphrey Perkins earns first Team Leicestershire major trophy of the season in an emphatic win

It was a very tense first night for the KS4 girl's badminton finals to witness. The atmosphere was quiet to compensate for the high levels of focus on each of the team's efforts, showing a high level of professionalism.

In the end it was all to play for in the finals between Humphrey Perkins School and Loughborough High School. It was Humphrey Perkins School with an emphatic win in a game that went the full length, scoring 21-19! The school registered its major first trophy of the season!

Badminton KS4 Boys Ashby School showed great strength and depth of skill to claim the second TeamLeicestershire Trophy of the week!

The beginning of the night was very entertaining with the two groups, a close contest between the teams in Group A. It all came to the final game in a three-way heated battle between Babington, Loughborough Grammar and Winstanley on whether they would make the semi-finals.

Ashby School dominated Group B by not losing a single game, showing great strength and depth within the 4 man team. The final was closely contested between Ashby School and Babington Academy in the end, but Ashby School were all too much and dictated key moments of the game to win their way to glory.

Iveshead School too strong for Wigston Academy to win KS3 Girls Badminton Team Leicestershire Trophy

It was Iveshead School whom progressed through the group stages to record a remarkable victory over Wigston Academy in a flush victory.

Wigston Academy missed out on a promising night as they too showed promising signs to show what it takes to be champions. They came runners up in group 1 but few predicted they would beat the winners of group 2, Ibstock Community College.

Newbridge High School triumphed over Crown Hills Community College to win KS3 Boys Team Leicestershire Trophy

The last of the Team Leicestershire finals was played by the KS3 boys involving 6 teams from each corner of Leicester-Shire to compete at Babington Academy.

Newbridge High School were clear victors on the night, no team could stop their efforts to bring the trophy to North West Leicestershire. The runners-up, Crown Hills Community College were also strong competitors but could not find a way passed the winners as they struggled to get a hold of the game.

On each of the night, everyone was handed a certificate for special recognition of all the individual's efforts to make it this far. A special thanks to Babington Academy, Carole Spencer, teachers from each participating school, family support and everyone else who helped.

The winning teams will now go on to represent Leicestershire at the regional round of the National Schools Competition, at Loughborough Leisure Centre on 16th March 2017.
