GO GOLD Athlete of the Week: Alex Harris

1. Describe your typical day (including training, school, etc.).

I tend to train 2-3 times a week, on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. On Wednesday and Friday I go into University in the morning to complete my work, before I go to the shooting ground in the afternoon to practice. On the weekends I either train locally, or travel to different shooting grounds around the country to compete in registered competitions and get practice in competition conditions

2. What would be your 3 essential items if you were stuck on a desert island?

My 3 essential items would be food, a shotgun and some clay pigeons

3. What has been your biggest challenge?

My biggest challenge was the first time that I made the England U21 team, to shoot at Bywell Shooting Ground. I was very nervous for this, but I managed to control my nerves and shoot well, winning the home international and the European championships.

4. What's the best thing that your sport has enabled you to do?

The best thing that my sport has enabled me to do is to go to Australia recently to compete at the World Championships. It was a fantastic experience, and a great trip and I would definitely like to return to Australia in the future.

5. What is your proudest accomplishment (doesn't have to be sport related)?

Winning A Class at the European Championships, while at the same time coming second in the U21 category, coming one point behind 1st place.

6. What's your favourite day of the week? Why?

Saturday, as most shooting grounds are open for registered shoots on Saturdays, so it's a good chance to get out, meet and have a laugh with other shooters.
