Creating an inclusive sport and physical activity network

LRS are celebrating the success of a 5 year Sport England funded inclusion project. 17% of the LLR population identify themselves as having a long-term health problem or disability. LRS and partners have embedded an inclusive, sustainable approach into the development and planning of programmes to provide a broader range of physical activity and sport opportunities for people with disabilities.

Through effective partnership working, delivering a workforce development programme and raising awareness, the following impact has been achieved:

  • 21,626 participants taking part in new activities, leading to an increase in participation.
  • 69 development opportunities organised to upskill the workforce.
  • 2 leisure facilities achieving the 'Inclusive Fitness Initiative' accreditation.
  • 3,830 participants attending Paralympic Roadshows.
  • 121 disabled people trained and deployed into leadership and volunteering roles. 5 young people have secured apprenticeships.
  • 28 care settings supported to deliver the Twilight Games programme.

With evidence of strong partnership working in place, there is a sound platform to continue to drive forward inclusive opportunities across LLR.
"The students really enjoy taking part in the inclusive basketball club as they learn new skills which are transferable to every aspect of life."
