Spotlight Dance Show 2018

Rutland's Spotlight Dance Show has been operating for 14 years and the programme now runs for 5 days and is accessible to students from all primary and secondary schools in Rutland. 6 dance shows took place in March 2018 at the Stamford Corn Exchange, with one performance dedicated to secondary schools, a further 4 to primary schools and 1 to local community groups.
The week involved 6 local dance academies, 17 schools and a total of 738 performers.

The dances were created in curriculum lessons, extracurricular
clubs, adult classes or by performers in their own time. Both performers and teachers demonstrated hard work and commitment throughout the term leading up to the shows. The performances showcased talented dancers and high quality choreographed routines and were enjoyed and appreciated by all attending.

The main purpose of Spotlight is to give all children and young people in the county the opportunity to experience a dance performance in a professional venue. It brought children and young people together from different schools and colleges to share their dance work and new experiences in a non-competitive environment. Children learnt to perform as part of a group, collaborate with others, make decisions, build confidence, build a community.

"1 venue, 2 organisers, 4 nights, 5 days, 6 dance academies, 6 shows,
17 schools, over 25 teachers, 40 volunteers, 62 dances and... 738 performers. That's Spotlight 2018!" Sarah Bell, Creative Director, Spotlight
