Rising Tigers star to host awards evening

Oadby and Wigston Borough Council, Everyone Active and the Local Sport Alliance 'Active Oadby & Wigston', have teamed up once again to host the prestigious event and have gone all out to make this year's night one to remember.

Flanker Tommy made his Tigers senior debut in the Anglo-Welsh Cup defeat at Bath in November 2017 and has captained Wales at Under-18s and Under-20s level. He is currently sponsored by awards evening partners, Everyone Active.

On top of back-rower Tommy Reffell presenting the awards, the Mayor of Oadby and Wigston will open proceedings before handing compere duties over to Gaynor Nash, ex Leicester Ladies and Wales hockey player.

Entertainment will be provided by the RDC Supremacy cheerleaders - the highest level cheerleading team in Leicestershire and the first team in Leicester to qualify and compete at the USASF World Cheerleading Championships in Orlando. RDC Supremacy was last year's winners of the Adult Team of the Year award.

The annual Oadby and Wigston Awards Evening will take place on the evening of Wednesday 21 November 2018 at the Parklands Leisure Centre, Oadby.

Oadby & Wigston Borough Council's Head of Leisure & Wellbeing, Avril Lennox MBE, said: "This is the eighth year of our prestigious Oadby and Wigston Awards Evening. The quality of the nominations put forward for both the individual and team awards are really impressive this year.

"This awards evening allows us to celebrate the inspiring and remarkable achievements of local people and community groups. The winners from each category will go on to be entered into the Leicester Mercury Awards, which I am sure they will do well in."

Dan Hicks, Everyone Active's area contract manager, said: "As a business, Everyone Active prides itself on what it is doing in the local community and we're so pleased and proud that we are going to be part of such a prominent local event.

"Nights like this are important to celebrate the achievements of many of the people from the Oadby and Wigston area and we're looking forward to what we are sure will be a great evening."
