North West Leicestershire claim double School Games Disability Sportshall Athletics titles

Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4/5 Disability Sportshall Athletics School Games Super-Series Final

With it's highest ever turn out of Schools and athletes at a School Games Level 3 County Final in Disability Sporshall Athletics, 12 Schools took part.

The athletes were getting in the Christmas spirit as music played and a few Christmas jumpers made an appearance! In a highly competitive and supportive spirit, all teams rotated round a range of stations including speed bound, soft javelin and the relay.

In both competitions it was North West Leicestershire who triumphed with Melton & Belvoir (KS3) and Oadby & Wigston (KS 4/5) winning the Spirit of the Games trophies for demonstrating most the value of: passion, self-belief, respect, honesty, teamwork and determination.

  • 3rd: West Leicester (Babington Academy)
  • 4th: Rutland (Catmose College)
  • =5th: Melton & Belvoir (Priory Belvoir Academy) and Oadby & Wigston (Manor High School)
  • 7th: Blaby & Harborough (Lutterworth High School)
  • 8th: East Leicester (Crown Hills Community College)
  • 9th: Hinckley & Bosworth (Dorothy Goodman School)
  • Spirit of the Games Winner: Melton & Belvoir (Priory Belvoir Academy)

The Leicester-Shire & Rutland School Games, now in its seventh year, is part of the national 'School Games Programme'. It aims to keep competitive sport at the heart of schools and provide more young people with the opportunity to compete and achieve their personal best. It is open to all young people aged 6-18 years, of all abilities and backgrounds from every school across Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland.

Delivered locally by Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport (LRS) and the 10 School Sport & Physical Activity Networks (SSPANs), the Leicester-Shire & Rutland School Games provides schools with the opportunity to enhance their existing work in school sport and create a year-round calendar of competition for all students.
