De Montfort University pivot their way to success at the Workplace Female Netball Competition!

On Wednesday 10th April, 11 local workplaces descended on the home of Leicestershire Netball – Soar Valley Netball Centre – for an evening of fun and friendly competition.

With both seasoned players and fresh faces in attendance, the event was shaping up to be an exciting one.

Teams were split into two groups, allocated a court each. Each group played in a round-robin style format, before heading into 5 play-off matches.

Group A: Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport (LRS), Moat Community College, Impero Software, New College (B), EQS Ltd UK, and Ellesmere College.

Group B: Mellor Primary School, New College (A), NHS, De Montfort University (DMU), and GE Oil & Gas.

An impressive average of 27 goals were scored across the 5 group games for the leading teams in Group A, with LRS, Impero, and EQS Ltd bringing up the rear but still scoring an admiral number of goals. Ellesmere College took the lead and headed into the 1st/2nd place play-off.

Topping the table in Group B were De Montfort University, winning 4 out of 4 games. A closer finishing group in terms of goals scored, NHS took home 3 group-stage wins, bagging a place in the 3rd/4th place play-off. Stepping up to fill a team opening at the last minute, GE Oil & Gas took away 2 wins from the group stages.

The play-offs took place under the watchful eye of our expert umpires and saw wins from Mellor, GE Oil & Gas, NHS (with an impressive final score of 12-2), and DMU.

Top 5 positionings were as follows:

  1. De Montfort University
  2. Ellesmere College
  3. NHS
  4. Moat Community College
  5. GE Oil & Gas

Some spectacular play was witnessed by not only our club players but some of our 'Back to Netball' stars as well. LRS would like to thank all players for their sportsmanship and hope to see you at our competitions in the future! Thanks must also go to Val Kindred and her team of Umpires for ensuring the event ran smoothly.
