LRS have been distributing #HealthyAtHome packs for children and older adults!

During the COVID-19 period, LRS developed a range of Healthy At Home Activity Packs to support people in their homes to remain active, especially if they were shielding, in isolation or just unable to participate in any form of physical activity.

Children with disabilities have been particularly vulnerable during these past months and have been unable to access their usual activities either at school or in the community. Physical activity as we know is brilliant for our health and wellbeing, but for some children with disabilities, not being able to participate means that they also miss the social aspect of being with others and the benefits this also brings.

The Healthy At Home Sensory Activity packs for children were specifically developed for those children with more complex needs and the packs contained a small range of equipment with activity cards explaining how to play various games, as well as how to utilise things in their home to enable the games to be played.

Activities such as Footprint Trail, Bean Bag Target and Boccia Socks provided a lot of fun and enjoyment, not only for the child but the whole family.

The Activity Packs were delivered to families through the Disabled Children's Service and the Children and Family Wellbeing Services to enjoy.

Older Adults have also been particularly vulnerable during these past months and have been unable to access their usual activities. Physical activity as we know is beneficial not only for our health and wellbeing, but also for the social aspect of being with others.

The Healthy At Home Sensory Activity packs for Older Adults contained a range of information booklets on keeping active in the home and supporting strength and balance, some fun activity cards and a range of equipment to play the games. All the activities can be played either on your own or with others. All can enjoy the games including the young ones when they are able to visit grandparents!
