Our Virtual School Games Paralympic Festival has begun!

Monday marked the start of our second ever Virtual School Games County Festival - the LRS Virtual School Games Paralympic Festival running from the 17th- 21st May. The event got underway with an opening ceremony hosted by Paralympian Dan Powell who completed a Q&A about his career and a warm up for attending schools. If your school missed the opening ceremony it is now available to view on our resource page linked below.

We hope that this interactive County-wide event will allow lots of young people across all schools in the County the opportunity to participate in and experience a range of Paralympic Sports activities, in school, at home and via our Virtual Together mobile app platform.

Our dedicated Virtual School Games Paralympic Festival web page is hosting a whole range of resources from a number of para-sport experts. There are lesson / session plans, skills / activity cards and introductory videos about the sports so you can learn about them as well as experiencing them for yourselves. Our Virtual Together app is also hosting number different challenges each day of the week allowing children to showcase the skills they have learnt at school and use them to compete with your friends, schoolmates and other people from schools across Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland. Prizes will be awarded to the winning school as well as the most engaged school on the app! We have already launched para-athletics and wheelchair rugby challenges this week with para-football, wheelchair basketball and sitting volleyball still to come!

Competitive and non-competitive virtual boccia events have also started to take place with schools across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland going head to head over zoom. Early results are as follows:

Millfield Academy 8- Merrydale Junior 1

Ashmount School 8- Ellesmere College 20

Ashmount School 12- Dorothy Goodman 13

Ellesmere College 21- Dorothy Goodman 7

English Martyrs 12- Millfield Academy 4

Make sure to follow the weeks events on social media and share pictures of you, your school or your children getting involved! #LRSchoolGames
