Retrain to Retain programme set to benefit sport and physical activity professionals

After Sport England's announcement of their new strategy to 'Unite the Movement' they have taken steps to implement year one plans through a confirmed investment of £5m of National Lottery funding. This money will be used in a new and unique job retention and support package for sports and physical activity professionals.

This new Retrain to Retain programme will provide tools, training and services to enable sector professionals to return to work safely and with confidence, providing opportunities for participation to return to pre-pandemic levels.

CIMSPA will be heading up the delivery of the programme, alongside a number of other partners, including UK Coaching and EMD UK to help support up to 25,000 sports and fitness coaches who had to find work outside of the sector during the pandemic. Areas of economic deprivation will be prioritised and under-represented groups will be thoroughly supported throughout the programme.

Retrain to Retain will aim to greatly reduce or eradicate many of the costs associated with restarting work for up to 5,000 self-employed professionals and micro-businesses. It will support unemployed individuals with access to training and skills, provide funding for professional accreditations and insurance, along with access to a wide range of additional resources.

Full details of the ReTrain to Retain programme, along with information on how to apply for support, will be confirmed in the coming weeks. For now visit the CIMSPA website for more on this or visit our Supporting Organisations page to find information and contact officers for more information on the programme within the Leicestershire, Leicester & Rutland areas.
