CIMSPA and its programme partners are looking for employers of all sizes to answer 1-2 short questions per day over the coming weeks, through a digital platform. With this minimal time investment, employers can help to shape the future of skills and training provision to ensure it meets their business needs.

What is the Local Skills Improvement Plan?
The Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP) for Leicester and Leicestershire is part of the Department for Education's Skills Accelerator programme (a major nationwide investment in skills and training).
This LSIP is one of just eight 'trailblazer' projects taking place around the UK and covers three sectors:
- Sport, physical activity and human health
- Advanced logistics
- Advanced manufacturing
What's the purpose?
The purpose of the LSIP is to break down any "information barriers" that exist between employers and education providers, with the objective of making technical skills training more responsive to employers' skills needs within a local area.
How are employers involved?
We want to work with employers to understand the skills, knowledge and behaviours that you need education and training courses to deliver, in order for your team members to make a positive impact from day one.
We would like to engage with you to gather data on the current and future skills requirements you have. This data will then be shared with education providers and professional bodies to help shape both the immediate and future provision, supply and investment in skills and training.
What's the process?
The first phase involves data collection from a range of employers across the region, using a digital platform.
Representatives of sector employers, employer representative groups, professional institutes and chartered institutes will be asked to answer 1-2 short questions per day for up to three months. These will be a mixture of multiple choice, YES/NO and free text questions, designed to minimise the amount of time required to respond to no more than a couple of minutes per day.
In the New Year, the data we've collected will be validated and analysed. Part of this validation will be to check the conclusions with your experience, before being used to inform the new Local Skills Improvement Plan, which will be completed by the end of March 2022.
Who can take part?
To ensure that the LSIP accurately reflects the needs of employers in the region, it's important that we hear from as many people as possible. This could include frontline staff, operations and support staff, team leaders, managers, HR departments or learning & development professionals.
How will this benefit employers?
Employers participating in this phase of the LSIP will have exclusive early access to current data and trends in the sport and physical activity sector and will play a part in ensuring that future knowledge, skills and behaviour requirements are provided within the county.
This is an opportunity to shape the education and skills development provision within Leicester and Leicestershire, helping to ensure that it reflects the needs of your business both now and in the future.
Who is involved?
Within sport and physical activity, the LSIP is a collaboration between CIMSPA, Active Together, East Midlands Chamber and Loughborough College (along with Leicester College, North Warwickshire & South Leicestershire College and SMB Group).
- CIMSPA is the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity, the professional development body for the sector in the UK.
- Active Together core team support and work collaboratively with a range of organisations and colleagues who share the ambition to help our communities across Leicestershire, Leicester & Rutland realise the benefits of a more physically active life.
Across all three sectors, the LSIP is being supported by East Midlands Chamber - the leading business representation organisation in the East Midlands region, with a membership of more than 4,300 businesses.
Please note: this is not the same as the Training Needs Analysis that you may recently have taken part in. Both data gathering exercises will feed separately into the creation of the Local Skills Improvement Plan for our sector.
