This Girl Can - Beginners Walking/Running Group in Partnership with LCFC Match Fit

This Girl Can have successfully run a 10 week pilot project to encourage inactive/post isolating women to get moving more and become active, with the aim of moving for a distance of 5k.

The group was led by fully qualified Run Leader & Coach Dawn Tobin, with support from Sarah Jones (Health & Wellbeing Coordinator from Leicester City in the Community) and Kim Angell (Running/Walking Activator from Active Together).

The group, who walk/jog/run around Abbey Park in Leicester each week, has been a major success. The group managed to complete the Couch to 5k program, which was celebrated with a graduation run around a few parks in Leicester City Centre, followed by two laps around the King Power Stadium, the home of Leicester City Football Club (LCFC).

LCFC have been very happy with the partnership and have now employed Dawn to continue as a casual coach. Dawn is now leading a social group every Wednesday, which has led to the participants to grow in confidence and enjoy the benefits of being active!

Testimonies from some participants:

Karen - "This group has been amazing and came at just the right time for me. After having COVID and suffering with my mental health it encouraged me to leave the house again for the first time in weeks. The encouragement from Dawn and the rest of the group has been so positive and has catered for all abilities and ages"

Kerry - "It has been great running with likeminded people it has really encouraged me to carry on my fitness journey"

Jennifer - "Lovely, encouraging group. It's helped get me up and out of bed and on the move, I have met some lovely people and it has really helped me with my mental health"
