Leicestershire Active Travel Month for March

Walk, cycle or scoot to School!

Leicestershire Active Travel Month March is a collaborative campaign between Active Together, the School Sport and Physical Activity Networks (SSPAN) and Choose How You Move. The campaign will begin on Tuesday 1st March and will be around promoting walking, cycling and scooting to school.

Actively travelling to school has many benefits for your child: it helps keep them fit and healthy, can increase concentration levels in class, helps to develop road safety skills and is fun. Reducing the number of cars around the school will also help to make the area quieter, safer and less congested.

During March classes can use their Active Travel Wallchart to record how pupils are travelling to school during the month.

There will be competitions linked to the Active Travel Wallchart (which you can get from your SSPAN) which will give your school the chance to win Active Travel Goodie Bags! To be in with a chance of winning some Goodie Bags you simply need to send back the Active Travel Wallchart to cmarlow@longfield.leics.sch.uk by Friday 8th April 2022.

Please contact your School Sport and Physical Activity Networks (SSPAN) to obtain the:

  • Wallchart - designed for your schools to use in the classroom to encourage and track each child's daily commute to school.
  • Example parent letter
  • M & E form and wallcharts

If you aren't able to travel actively all the way from home you can still take part by parking a distance from the school (e.g. 10 minutes away) and walking, cycling or scooting the rest. Please make sure your child's bike and scooter is safe to ride to school and you park in a safe and appropriate place.

Your school can log any ACTIVE TRAVEL journey with Daily Boost and your pupils can earn Boost Bands to reward their individual achievements. Daily Boost encourages All pupils to do 15 minutes of ANY activity at any time of the day, so this could be your ACTIVE TRAVEL or if you wanted to offer an alternative for those pupils that are unable to walk, cycle or scoot to school.
