The School Games Paralympic Festival is taking place on Thursday 20th April at Loughborough University. The Festival is delivered by Active Together in partnership with our School Sport & Physical Activity Networks (SSPANs) and will see over 300 young people from over 35 schools from across Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland (LLR) taking part.

There will be County Finals in Boccia, New Age Kurling and Sportshall Athletics, where the young people have qualified to compete to be crowned the Leicester-Shire & Rutland Champion in their particular competition.

A selection of participation activities will also take place, where young people have been selected to take part in an Activity Carousel involving wheelchair and inclusive sports, judo and archery. The Motor Activity Training Programme is an opportunity for young people with more profound impairments to take part in and experience activities that will aim to develop their motor and cognitive skills and abilities.

In collaboration with our School Sport & Physical Activity Networks, Active Together implemented a new approach to the delivery of our county wide school sport and physical activity offer. The 'Inspire – Develop - Excel model' seeks to support the wellbeing and development of ALL young people in LLR, and tackle inequalities through sport and physical activity. The Festival more accurately reflects this approach rather than the purely competitive sports event it has been in previous years.

The Leicester-Shire & Rutland School Games is part of the national 'School Games Programme'. It aims to keep participation in sport and physical activity at the heart of school life and provide more young people with the opportunity to participate, compete and achieve their personal best.
