Are you ready to #WalkThisMay throughout National Walking Month?

Walking is one of the easiest ways to improve physical and mental health and stay connected to our friends and family, helping us feel less lonely and isolated.

Did you know that May is National Walking Month?

Throughout May, National Walking Month encourages people to get active and walk more for your physical and mental wellbeing. The evenings will stay lighter for longer, making it the perfect time to get outside and explore your local area on foot.

Swapping a drive for a short walk can also help reduce air pollution and congestion, which is all the more reason to start walking! Did you know that a 20-minute walk can reduce the risk of a number of preventable health conditions, including certain cancers, depression, heart disease and Type 2 diabetes?

Why not take the opportunity to start walking this month? Keep an eye out for special local National Walking Month events, as well as the National Walking Month Pledge Wall, where you can pledge your journeys throughout the month and inspire other residents of Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland to be more active!
