Sport England Places and Spaces - £7 million capital investment

The Sport England Places and Spaces fund makes awards of up to £10,000 using National Lottery funding, from a pot of £7 million, to help community sport and physical activity groups create or improve facilities in their local area.

Working with projects across the country, Places and Spaces is a match-funding initiative, delivered in partnership with Crowdfunder. It can support community organisations to make small-scale facility improvements that will help develop places and spaces wanting to use Birmingham 2022 as a catalyst to improve community sport and physical activity e.g.

  •   creating a welcoming and accessible space or place,
  •   improving a place or space to encourage new people,
  •   changing a place or space to provide opportunities for more people to be more active, locally.

SHIRE Community Grants open for 2022/23

Leicestershire County Council's SHIRE Community Grants programme for 2022-23 is now open for applications. The programme enables VCSE (Voluntary, Community & Social Enterprise) sector organisations to deliver community-based projects, services and activities which help to improve the lives of vulnerable people in Leicestershire.

Eligible organisations will be able to apply for a small grant (max £3,000) or a large grant (max £10,000) for community-based projects and activities that are specifically focused on supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged people and communities.

The SHIRE Grants programme will be administered over 3 rounds of funding for 2022-23. The deadline for the first round of funding is 8th June.


Charnwood Community Grants 2022/23

Charnwood Borough Council are inviting applications for the 2022/23 Community Grants and Community Facilities Grants with a Round 1 deadline of 5pm on 13th May.

The Charnwood Community Grants can provide up to £5,000 for organisations currently running projects with community benefit in Charnwood, including organisational running costs (for up to one year), environmental projects and one-off contributions for equipment costs.

The Community Facilities Grants Scheme can award funding of up to £20,000, to a maximum of 50% of the total project cost. This scheme supports the renovation, improvement and provision of community buildings, including fitting out and provision of facilities for people with disabilities. Sports Clubs and Physical Activity groups are eligible to apply for funding.


Community Walking Grants in Leicester City

Through the Joint Air Quality Commission (JAQU) Leicester City Council is awarding grants of up to £300 each to community groups organising activities that encourage people to walk locally in Leicester. The emphasis is on local walking to encourage more people to explore the city of Leicester on foot – its streets, parks and waterside – and discover good short walks close to home.

The funding is available until March 2023 and applications can be made any time within this period.


Magic Little Grants 2022

Magic Little Grants 2022 has launched and £500 grants will be awarded to 2,650 charitable organisations on Localgiving. The funding can go towards a number of projects, including enabling participation in physical activity.

The application process is short and simple, taking ten minutes to complete. Each organisation may only apply once in 2022.


Defibrillator grants available for Sports Clubs

Recent tragic Cardiac Arrest events involving professional sports persons at the peak of their fitness shows that Cardiac Arrest can happen to absolutely ANYONE at ANYTIME and ANYWHERE!

If you go into cardiac arrest without a defibrillator, you have a 7% chance of survival. If a defibrillator is on the patient within the first 3-5 minutes, the chances of survival is over 70%.

London Hearts is currently offering a £300 grant towards the cost of every Defibrillator they supply to Sports Clubs across the whole of the UK, plus free online training. This initiative will remain in place until the funding is exhausted.


Warburtons Community Grants

Warburtons Community Grants provides small grants up to £400 to support charitable organisations towards broader activities which improve Health, Place or Skills for families in their community. They aim to support projects, activities and organisations that have charitable aims and will be of real direct benefit to families.

Intended outcomes include improving physical health and wellbeing, making spaces safe and inclusive, connecting communities with the environment, developing useful life skills and skills for employment. The deadline for applications 9th May.


Arnold Clark Community Fund

The Arnold Clark Community Fund was initially launched to provide financial help to community groups and charities that had been significantly affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Eligibility has been opened up to a wider range of organisations, with the aim of giving financial aid to even more communities in the UK.

The Arnold Clark Community Fund is open to all UK-registered charities and local community groups who fall into their eligibility criteria. The fund is also open to community interest companies, charitable incorporated organisations and social enterprises. Successful applicants will receive up to £1,000 in financial aid. The deadline for applications is 30th June.


ECB launch two new grants schemes for cricket

The Inspired to Play Grant Scheme 2022 aims to increase the number of boys and girls participating in cricket between June and September 2022 and is open to all ECB affiliated cricket clubs in England and Wales. Fixed grants of £1,000 per eligible applicant are available and the scheme will close to applications on 31st May (or when the funds run out, whichever is earlier).

The County Grants Fund aims to support ECB affiliated Cricket Clubs to: Create Welcoming Environments; Enhance Facilities and Playing Opportunities for Women's and Girls' Cricket and/or Disability Cricket; and Tackle Climate Change. Clubs can apply for between £1,000 and £10,000 per application. The scheme is expected to run until at least 2025.


New £16m Premier League Stadium Fund is launched

The Premier League Stadium Fund is the new name of the Football Stadia Improvement Fund (FSIF). It takes on the existing work of the FSIF with an extended remit, providing financial support to clubs throughout the football pyramid.

The Premier League Stadium Fund awards capital grants to clubs to support improvement of their stadium facilities for players, supporters and officials. The fund also includes a new Club Development Fund to help clubs grow and enhance sustainability.

Funding is available to clubs who play in Steps 1 to 6 of the National League System, Tiers 1 to 4 of the Women's Football Pyramid and clubs promoted into the English Football League.
