Indoor Senior National Championships 2018

20th Dec, 2018

The Nationals weekend started with the back to back on the Saturday which wasn't quite my day, but I was so happy to come back stronger on Sunday for the Senior National Championships.

In the qualification round I ranked 5th and then continued with the head to head matches. I won my matches 6-0, 7-5, 7-3 getting me to the semi finals. My shots felt so strong, which showed in the scores with ends of 30, 30, 27 and 30 out of a possible 30 points each end, meaning I won my match 6-2. In the gold medal match I was still really pleased with my shooting, but Bryony shot great and ended up winning the match 6-2, meaning I won second place!

Indoor East Midland Championships

30th Nov, 2018

I was so happy with how the East Midland Championships went last weekend. I've been working on a few technical changes at the beginning of the indoor season and it was good to put them into competition practice. Over 2 sessions I managed to beat my personal best twice with scores of 578 and 576 out of 600 on a WA fita 3 spot target. My scores meant that I won the Senior women's East Midlands title, with a good lead of 60 points. I was also apart of a great team from Kirby Muxloe archery club that won the East Midlands Team title as well.

Korean Training Week

30th Nov, 2018

I spent a 3 days with the GB team training with the Korean University archery team that came over to Lilleshall the other week. We were shooting outside doing a lot of competition simulation, shooting at 70 metres. We combined doing individual, team and mixed team head to heads and also several qualification rounds. It was a great opportunity to train with my team mates and also see how the Korean team trained. I learned a lot from the 3 days I was there and it was great to be able to do so much competition practice.

Conversion Academy Weekend

31st Oct, 2018

I had a great training weekend for the conversion academy at Lilleshall. It included a lot of different training types such as working on mental strategies, training exercises to test balance and stability whilst shooting and nutrition. We also completed benchmarking which tests our strength, I was really pleased with how it went, as I've been working on improving my overall strength so that over the winter season I can gradually increase my poundage on my bow.

National Series Stage 6

28th Sep, 2018

The last stage of the national tour went better than I had expected. After ranking 6th, I then worked my way through the head to heads when I was really pleased with my averages in the matches. I won my matches, 7-1, 6-0, 6-0 and 6-2 which got me to the gold medal match. I shot well, but didn't quite have the edge to win the match. I was definitely happy to come away with a silver medal at the last stage.

Second day of the British Target Championships

23rd Aug, 2018

On the Sunday, I was shooting for England in the home nations match and was a part of the winning team! They were tricky weather conditions to shoot in due to heavy rain in the morning and it being quite windy. Although I still managed to shoot a good score to finish me 5th. Over the whole National Championships weekend, I finished 3rd. I definitely didn't expect to place where I did and was very happy to follow up from my 3rd from the National Championships in the indoor season.

1st day of the British Target Championships

23rd Aug, 2018

The British Target Championships was a very successful weekend of shooting. I started off on the Saturday with a lower score than I would have liked but it still ranked me 10th. Then I worked my way through the head to heads, winning all my matches to get me to the final. I unfortunately lost the final to a fellow team mate, but I was so happy to finish 2nd.

Team Silver at the European Championships

2nd Aug, 2018

The European Championships was very successful trip and I was so happy to come home with a silver medal with the junior women's team! We shot well on the finals field together, but unfortunately the other team won the match. Overall, I have come away from Greece really pleased with my shooting throughout the week and I have gained more experience shooting on a finals field.

GB Selection Shoot

31st May, 2018

Training has been going really well recently. I've been reinforcing some technique changes that I made in the winter season and working on putting more power behind my shot. Last weekend, I competed in the GB selection shoot for the junior team for the European Championships in Greece. I ranked 1st in the ranking round with a new personal best and I was pleased with my shooting during the round robin head to heads in the afternoon. Hopefully I've done enough to be selected for the team.

First Competitions of the Outdoor Season

30th Apr, 2018

I haven't shot in many competitions at the beginning of the season due to studying for my A-levels. The weather conditions have been challenging at the competitions I have entered. At Derwent of Bowman I managed to finish 3rd, despite shooting in very cold and heavy rain throughout the day. I then competed in the GB selection shoot, which was the first of 2 selection shoots for the European Championships. I was very happy with the result of finishing 2nd and hopefully I will make the team in June.

UK Rankings 2017

30th Dec, 2017

The GB rankings have been published for 2017. I'm ranked 1st in the junior and I'm 5th in the senior rankings. I'm so happy to have topped the junior rankings in my last year as a junior and improved by senior ranking from 15th in 2016.

Beginning of the Indoor Season

30th Dec, 2017

I've had a quiet start to the indoor season. I've been catching up with schoolwork after my trip to Argentina for the World Championships and I've been working on several technique changes. I was therefore pleasantly surprised to finish 3rd on the Archery GB Back-to-Back event, which is an invitation event that includes the county's top archers. The following day that I then competed in the Senior National Championships with no expectations again, considering I won it last year, and I finished 3rd. I was really pleased with my performance and it was a great start to the indoor season.

National Series Final

9th Oct, 2017

I competed on Sunday in the Grand Final of the National Series, the big event of our domestic season. There are 6 stages during the summer with an archer's best three positions counting for the rankings. I'd finished 3rd and 2nd in the first two stages and 2nd in the final stage (I missed three and four because I was in Croatia for the Europa Cup). The top 8 went through to the final and I was pleased to finish 3rd in the rankings. The final was shot at 70 metres in front of the Think Tank Museum in Birmingham.

European Cup in Croatia

10th Sep, 2017

I had a great trip to Croatia for the European Cup. I ranked 20th in qualification with a competition personal best, which I was really pleased with. I won my first h2h in the 1/32's but I unfortunately I got knocked out of the h2h's in the 1/16's. I would have liked to have got further in the h2h's, but I did all could do and I've learnt a lot that I can carry forwards into the future. It was a brilliant trip and I enjoyed every minute shooting for Great Britain.

Junior Outdoor National's Championships

28th Jul, 2017

On the Saturday, at the metric event, I won the ladies under 18 recurve title. Then on the Sunday, which is the actual national championships, I shot a personal best at the round and also meant that I won the under 18's national title. This is my 5th consecutive winning title I've won in my age group at the national championships! I was really pleased with my performance over the weekend and I was so happy to enjoy my last junior nationals and finish them so well.

National Series Stage 2

6th Jun, 2017

My ranking round in the 2nd stage on Sunday again wasn't as good as I hoped it would be, but the conditions were difficult and I was pleasantly surprised I'd ranked 6th. I really seemed to get in the zone in the head-to-heads and I made it to the final of the head-to-heads. Although I lost the match I was really pleased to finish 2nd.

This means that I am currently leading the National Series rankings after 2 of the 6 stages. This exceeded all my expectations and I can't wait for the rest of the season.

National Series Stage 1

6th Jun, 2017

I was really pleased with my shooting in the first two stages of the National Series. All the top archers compete over 6 stages for a place in the National Series Final, which is the big domestic event in our sport, along with the National Championships. In stage 1 I finished 3rd, which I couldn't quite believe. There were so many great archers there that I went with no expectations. My ranking round was a bit lower than I would have liked, but I definitely pulled it back in the head-to-heads and I was very pleased with the end result.

Beginning of the Outdoor Season

11th May, 2017

In April I competed in my first tournament of the outdoor season, where I won the senior women's title and scored a personal best. Two weeks later I participated in the first GB selection shoot for the World Youth Championships. I won the qualification round on Saturday and finished 3rd in the head-to-heads on Sunday. On the Monday I won all my head-to-heads in the round-robins against the other top 6 archers.

European Indoor Championships

3rd May, 2017

I've had a very successful winter. I was pleased with my performances at the National Championships, where I won both the junior and senior titles, this led to my selection to shoot for GB juniors in the European Indoor Championships. I'm 17 years old and was competing in a tournament for under 21's. I didn't do as well as I'd hoped in the individual but I shot really well in the team competition. We shot great as a team and we won bronze after defeating Poland in the bronze medal match 6-0.

Indoor Season Training

17th Feb, 2017

I spend one weekend a month at the Confirmation Academy at Lilleshall working with my GB coach Alberto Zagami, who is from Italy. I also see him once a week in between the academies, sometimes at Lilleshall. I've spent the winter making adjustments to my technique and building up my strength so I can shoot a higher poundage bow in the summer. I've slowly increased the poundage over the last few months and I'm now pulling about 37 pounds compared to 31 at the end of last outdoor season.

Leicester Mercury Sports Awards

3rd Feb, 2017

I won the Young Sportswoman of the year at the Leicester Mercury Sports Awards! It was a great event with some truely amazing people. It was such a great way to start 2017. We were all very worried about Alan Birchenall though after he collapsed half way through the evening. It's good to see that he is well now.

Senior National Championships

16th Jan, 2017

In the knock out stages we shot ends of three arrows with 2 points going to the archer getting the higher score, the first to 6 points won the match. I won my matches 6-2, 7-1, 6-2, 7-1 to reach the final. I went up against Roman who won a silver medal at the 2012 Olympics. I shot really well and managed to take 3 points from her but eventually I lost 7-3. It was a good experience to shoot against such a top quality opponent. Although because Aida Roman was not British, I am Senior British Champion!

National Championships Weekend

16th Jan, 2017

I had a great weekend at the indoor National Championships. I won the junior title (5 dozen arrows over 20 yards) on the Saturday with a PB of 582. On the Sunday, the Senior Championships (5 dozen arrows over 18 metres) went far better than I could have ever imagined. My score of 571 (out of 600) in the qualification round was 26 better than my PB. The top 32 after the qualification round went through to the knockout stages. I was 2nd behind guest archer Aida Roman of Mexico so I was the top ranked UK archer.

End of the Outdoor Season

23rd Oct, 2016

The outdoor season's now finished. I've not quite equaled the achievements of last year when I competed for GB in the World Championships and Europa Cup and won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Youth Games, but it's still been a successful summer. In spite of my injury in the winter season I still made the GB squad as the non travelling reserve, was the under 18 national championship, broke a national record and made the transition to competing with the seniors. And also selected as the only female archers to go to Rio.
