Gym update

5th Jan, 2022

I am very lucky to have been selected to be a university of Southampton sports scholar. This gives me access to the scholars gym and a strength and a conditioning coach. I am currently also working with a great coach from pinnacle gym in Hamble. I am finally feeling stronger again and am looking forward to next season where I can prove this.

Winter update

5th Jan, 2022

I had a premature end to the season because a storm severely damaged jiraffe. While I have not been inshore racing I have been training and racing with Southampton university team racing team. We have sailed two events so far, one in Cardiff and one in Loughborough. I am sailing with a team relatively new to team racing that are very enthusiastic and willing to learn. Our best result so far was a 5th in Loughborough narrowly missing out on the semi finals. As far as offshore sailing goes I have managed to squeeze in a 24hour delivery to Brixham harbour around my studies. These little deliveries help keep me sane, and increase m offshore miles for my yacht master exam. After exams I will be out with the British keelboat academy and Southampton sailing team again. Exciting times to come!

29er Winter champs + training weekend

5th Feb, 2020

The winter champs the week after were certainly very cold. The first day was very light and shifty. We had a corker of a first race finishing with a top 10 and the other 3 races weren't far off. The second day brought more wind which came with more challenges. Again our first race was a great one finishing with another top 10, however as the day went on and the gusts picked up we couldn't work out what was going on on the race course. This lead to 2 poor results that dropped us back overall. However, I really can't complain about the weekend. We had some great highs which shows that we are comfortable at the front of the fleet. With some training over the next couple of months before the youth national champs we will hopefully keep the scores consistently low. Overall we came 6th in the weekend.

29er training camp

5th Feb, 2020

The past few weeks I have been very busy 29ering with Josie. We sailed a training weekend at Grafham and then the Winter champs the weekend after. The training weekend was much needed considering it has been a year since I raced a 29er. Everything we did was very repetitive, however this drilled into us good habits to take forward into the next season. We made some huge gains with manoeuvres and overall boat speed. This made us extremely confident going into the GP event.

Profiling

14th Jan, 2020

As the training season is in full swing I now have a new focus until February. All youth sailors are required to take part in profiling (fitness testing) if they want to be considered for the RYA youth squad. Profiling tests all aspects of fitness, with benchmarks we are all required to meet. Without the support from Everyone Active and LRS sport I would struggle to train for my profiling. This support allows me to reach my benchmarks and be allegeable for the RYA squads. Thankyou LRS!

Nacra 15 youth squad training

14th Jan, 2020

In mid December Hector and I spend the weekend in Weymouth training with the RYA youth nacra team. We were given a glamour day on the Saturday and had 2 long sessions on the water. We made some huge gains in communication on the startline. This then lead to better starts overall as the day went on. On the Sunday we sadly weren't able to sail as a huge storm passed through. Instead we worked on building a relationship with our sailing partners through a trust exercise. We also worked with the RYA jurors in a mock protest scenario, which AJ and I were happy to win. Overall was a very productive weekend and some large gains were made.

29er GP rutland

14th Jan, 2020

In early December I sailed in the 29er GP at Rutland sailing club with a new partner. The first day of the event was sadly called off due to fog, however the second day went ahead. We were split into 2 fleets as there was over 70 boats at the event. Our first race ever sailing together we got an 8th. We then got 2 more top 10s and a 15th. Overall this placed us 22nd. For the first time sailing together we were really happy with how it went and are looking forward to sailing together in the future.

Nacra 15 worlds

27th Oct, 2019

My last week was spent in Marseille, France at the world Championships. It was my first big international event in the Nacra 15. Lots was learned durning the event with plenty of top 20 finishes. As we are less experienced a few bad results brought our score down overall. I am looking forward to training hard with the British youth sailing team over winter and come back even stronger next year.

I spent the last weekend at Weston sailing club near Southampton. It was an extremely windy weekend which proved difficult for us. We are still very happy with our improvement over the summer and are keen to push even harder over the winter.

BSSC sailing week

25th Aug, 2019

After a very busy summer nacra sailing I jumped back into my laser for a fun event in North Norfolk. I was really happy to come away with third after missing a whole day of racing to look at universities. It's always a brilliant event and we were graced with champagne sailing almost every day. I really enjoyed getting back into the laser again, I had definitely missed it.

Nacra eurocup

25th Aug, 2019

This summer Hector and I traveled to Cornwall to train with the British youth sailing team. It was a great 4 days and lots was learned. We drove to Lake Como Italy to compete in the eurocup. We were really happy with our progress throughout the week and had some great individual results to come away with. Sadly we didn't finish in the place we wanted as we had a couple of breakages and capsizes as we are still relatively new to the boat. I'm very excited to see how much we can improve before the worlds in October.

Team racing nationals oxford

24th Jun, 2019

Sadly I had not been sailing through exams and nacra 15 training so was appointed captain for the Oakham red team. We struggled on the first day as we had never sailed as a team before and lacked confidence in decision making, however picked it up to reach the semifinals and finals on the last day. Narrowly loosing out to RGS red. I am so thankful for having an incredible team that performed outstandingly, they were an absolute pleasure to sail with. I am also very grateful for having the most supportive crew Matthew for the past couple years, I will miss him a lot and wish him good luck for next year at Oakham. A huge thank you to all the Oakham sailors and OOs for making the past 4 years so enjoyable and I hope to see you all on the university circuit in the near future.

Oakham School speech day

26th May, 2019

I am honoured to have been awarded the Old Oakhamian Cup at speech day this year. This cup recognised outstanding sporting performance within 7th form girls. I was also delighted to be awarded full sporting colours with distinction and honours cap. I am so privileged to be able to go to Oakham School. It has been an incredible 4 years and I have had so much support from a personal strength and conditioning coach, to event support at the World Championships. I am very proud to call myself an Oakhamian and I am looking forward to visiting in the future.

Team Racing

5th May, 2019

Yesterday I travelled down the Alton water with school to take part in a team racing event. It was very windy, however our team are very experienced so we managed to finish the event unbeaten with 4 1,2,3 wins. This is a great confidence booster going into the summer where we have many more events to look forward to including the BSDRA schools nationals in Oxford.

We were delighted to get a 3rd on the first race of the first day. Overall we came 6th brits and are really happy with our progress over the year so far.

More training

26th Mar, 2019

Last weekend Hector and I spent a very windy weekend down at Waymoth and Portland National Sailing Accademy. We are part of a 4 boat training group. Sadly we dedicated Saturday to boat work as it was far too windy and conserved our energy for Sunday. We spent Sunday blasting around inside and outside of the harbour in extreme conditions. We made some huge gains with our confidence in the boat and would be happy to go out in the big breeze again!

Fitness testing

24th Jan, 2019

With fitness testing fast approaching my focus is now primarily on hitting all the bench marks. This would have not been possible without the help from LRS and Everyone Active in Hinkley. The gym membership has meant that I can maintain my fitness levels when I am away from school. This will hopefully show at physical profiling. I am excited to show the improvements I have made over the winter. Thankyou LRS!!

Nacra 15 training

24th Jan, 2019

This weekend Hector and I travelled to Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy for some training before the RYA youth nationals. We were part of a group of three boats. As Hector and I are still not used to sailing together we focused very much on the processes in the boat and manoeuvres. As the weekend went on we progressed hugely and are now in a much better pace going into winter training. I am really looking forward to more training with Hector to improve further before the youth national championships in easter. For the next few weeks we will be focusing on fitness testing ready for RYA youth squad selections.

Nacra 15 sailing

9th Dec, 2018

I spent the last weekend down at Waymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy trialing a new boat to campaign. The Nacra 15 is a mixed youth class boat and is part of the Olympic pathway. I sailed with Hector Bunclark from Devon who has been in the boat for around 8 months. We had a great time and I learned so much from the experience. We both worked so well together and will hopefully start a worlds campaign in the new year. This decision has been made due to my previous 29er helm taking a step back from competitive sailing. I am very excited to see where this path may lead me. 2019 is looking like a very different but exciting year.

I spent the weekend at Grafham sailing club sailing with Emily. it was one of her first events in the 29er so lots was learned and we had many promising moments. It was also good for me to get back into competitive sailing after a short break ready for a NACRA 15 trial in Weymouth the next weekend.

ET National Team Racing Champs

18th Oct, 2018

The first weekends of my half term was spent at Farmoor reservoir in Oxford for the team racing nationals. I was one of the Oakham school 1st team helms. Even though we didn't sail our best the team are really happy to come away from the event knowing what we need to improve on and we are in a very strong frame of mind ready for the university events in the new year. As it is our last year together at Oakham we are very keen to keep training hard to come back even stronger.
