Since the end of last year, Active Leicester has been pleased to welcome a new audience of young people participating in the Holiday Activities and Food programme (HAF) running at their leisure centres. The HAF scheme gives eligible children the opportunity to access free activities and food over the Easter, summer and winter school holidays.
Active Leicester offered young people age 11-16 the chance to come along and use their gyms, swimming pools and courts as part of the scheme, giving them the chance to encounter the whole leisure centre experience and make use of the extensive facilities. For many, this was the first time they had been given the opportunity to go into a leisure centre environment.
This Case Study is taken from the Active Together Annual Review 23/24. The document provides a snapshot of the work of the Active Together Board, team and partners and what we have done in partnership to encourage the communities in Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland to be physically active and move more.
