Bradgate Park Conservation Volunteer

Conservation Volunteers go out onto the Estate and get a hands-on experience of the work involved in managing the Park. You will be involved in a wide range of habitat conservation and maintenance tasks across the whole Estate. Tasks are seasonal, ongoing and include activities such as maintaining the historic dry-stone walling, invasive species control, tree frame construction, planting trees, charcoal making and much more. If being outside is what you’re looking for, then this group is for you!

Skills/Equipment Required:

For most of our conservation sessions no previous experience is required and training is provided during the session, we will provide any equipment needed to undertake the task.

Fitness Level Required:

Reasonable level of fitness – you will be undertaking outdoor activities in all weathers, some conservation tasks require heavy lifting and/or bending for extending periods.

Access Considerations:

These sessions take place in different areas across the park and volunteers may be required to walk to the meeting point from the car park, there is limited access to facilities such as toilets during these tasks.

What to Wear and Bring:

Volunteers should wear suitable clothing and sturdy footwear; the weather can be very changeable at the park so please bring a waterproof coat. If you are working in an area where there are ticks you may be asked to wear long trousers and a long-sleeved top. You will also need to provide your own lunch and any drinks that you require during this session, conservation activities take place across the park so access to the café and/or shop is often limited.

Frequency of Sessions:

Monday – Friday

Duration of Each Session:

9.30am – 3.30pm

Additional Comments (e.g. DBS checks, minimum age, references):

Volunteers must be aged over 18 years of age, references may be required. We have a Young Rangers group for those volunteers who are aged 11 – 18 years of age and are interested in assisting with conservation activities.
