My Coaching Course Part 1

PART 1. i first thought about becoming bowls coach in 2020, then came lockdown so the plan was on hold. After lockdown on returning to the club I just wanted to concentrate on my bowls and getting my game back after a year off, I was then asked become an active together champion and that got me thinking maybe I should try and give something back to the game and the club i love. So I put the idea first to my partner Sandra and she said go for it and also the club coaches told me that it was a great idea, so the idea took off I went on to the internet and found my way to the coach bowls website and found that the nearest course will be in 2 months time I spoke to the club and they said they would pay for it which was great, it was to be held at Boston indoor bowls club which wasn't too far away.So i booked the 2-day course with the first day on the 30th of October 2021, and Day 2 which included the final assessment will be held on the 22nd of January 2022. The 30th of October soon arrived and also I headed to Boston like my first day back at school when I got to Boston I soon found the Bowls Club and I met up with the group 12 other players and the coach Barry introduced himself and gave us a rundown of the course and what was it expected of us to pass ,we were all given our course folders and we started to fill in the information, and we were watching and listening to videos.I didn't realise there was so much paperwork you needed to fill out before you could run a bowls lesson what with safety information, the warm up exercises then a plan of the lesson including what equipment will be needed and the aims and objectives of each lesson so after all that I was ready for lunch, which was really good Ham egg and chips ln the afternoon we moved to the green and ran through different scenarios with one person as the coach, one as the beginner, and one as the helper to collect the bowls up and one as an assessor after each go we had to write how we thought the lesson had gone looking at it from the position of which ever person we were then we changed to play in a different position after everyone had done each place we sat and talked about each lesson, what we liked/disliked, what worked well or not, and what was needed to work on to give better lesson next time. Barry pointed out that self assessment is very important then we were given two lessons to plan and practise at her own clubs that was day one done I said looking forward to seeing you next time and headed home.
