When me and John qualified for the final of the Disability Bowls England National Pairs playing some of the best Bowls I've played for a long time I have been really looking forward to this day Friday 14th April and in the final we would be playing against 2 of my very good friends in Daniel and Chris , both really good players who I've had the pleasure of partnering to wins in the past. We arrived at the EIBA National Finals at Nottingham Indoor Bowls Club at 8.30 am and got ready to start at 9,45 am .I thought I would be more nervous at the start but I felt pretty relaxed, unfortunately we didn't get going very well and soon found ourselves 8 shots down after 10 of the 18 ends but we started to close the gap and I knew if I didn't give up and keep playing a positive game in Bowls anything can happen and I thought if we got to the last end being only 1 or 2 behind we had a chance but it didn't quite work out that well we won the 17th end by 2 but it left us 4 shots behind but luckily I had the jack and I had seen Daniel was playing short Jack's very well so I gambled on putting it long going full length. And my first bowl ended right on the jack to put the pressure on and when we changed ends we had 2 of the shots needed I told John to be positive and go for it knowing he is a really good at longer Jack's so with only 1 bowl left each we still held 2 shots but if John could hit their bowl out we would have 5 and hold a winning game and he played it perfectly and now it was down to Chris and I hoped my gamble of the long jack would pay off and it did Chris bowled his last bowl 3 feet short we had done it . DBE Pairs Champions 2023. The feeling is the best ever a mix of pride , joy and relief.
