Winter floods

I volunteer for the Leicester Outdoor Pursuits Centre and in January, the centre flooded. It was the worst it has flooded in 50 years, causing damage to the building and the grounds. It has been so strange to not be at the centre every week with the Women's Group I am part of but we showed up the Saturday after, to help with clearing the litter across the grounds dumped by the flood water. It was heart warming to see almost 100 people from across Leicestershire, volunteer their time on that day to help. It was also heart breaking to see so much litter across the whole site. Funds are being raised as we speak to help the centre recover. Active Together even donated a lot of pens which we need for people to complete consent forms as all of the centres were lost in the flood. Just as many other people and businesses were affected this January by floods in Leicestershire, it has been a hard time.

We have still been finding ways to meet up and be active. One of the activities was indoor climbing. Something I have never done before because I thought you'd need a lot of upper body strength and be young to be able to do it. How wrong was I? It was so much more accessible than I thought and so much fun. I often find that with exercise, I think it will be too hard or need me to be fitter than I am. It can be so hard to have the confidence to try something knowing I might fail but as long as I am with a group I am comfortable with, it is always fun.
